Jean MacPherson’s Hunting Skirt

This just-over-knee length skirt in the Hunting pattern was made by Macphersons of Edinburgh in 2016. Jean told us:

It is a very straight skirt and quite short, just below the knee. It has a small split at the back of about 6 inches for easier walking. The skirt is very nicely made – it looks good and the waistband matches the pattern. It’s been done very well. I got it at Macphersons in Edinburgh, which I described in my diary as ‘a very strange little shop’, which it was! The shop was tucked away, out of sight almost. The lady in the shop was very kind and very knowledgeable about the different tartans, especially the Macpherson tartans, so we were able to order the skirt there. I think I ordered it in 2016, before I attended my first gathering – and it was sent to my home. I liked the hunting tartan and I wanted it to be a straight skirt, but on reflection it would have been better for me to have had a fuller or pleated skirt, because it would have been easier to wear. But I am very pleased with it. I marched in this skirt at the Platinum Dubh in 2016.
