Mairi MacPherson’s Dress Kilt

This ‘Dress’ kilt belongs to Mairi MacPherson. It was made in 1976 by A. &. J Scott, Aberdeen for Isobel Leith. It is made from wool. The double stripes are purple.

This is the first kilt I bought for myself – I found it on Oxfam Online for £19! It is stained – some of the white bits have yellowed with age – and there is a small tear just underneath the waistband at the back that I haven’t got round to mending yet. I don’t wear it very often but get it out now and then, and I tend to wear it as a skirt for everyday occasions. I wore it to the Games at the Clan Gathering in 2019.
