Seller’s description: ‘This is a rare and collectible cigarette silk featuring the vibrant tartan pattern associated with the Scottish “MACPHERSON” Clan. Superimposed on the tartan is a detailed depiction of the Clan Macpherson crest, which includes a shield with heraldic elements and supporters, and a motto banner that appears to say “TOUCH NOT THE CAT BUT A GLOVE.” The silk is marked with “13” and “B.D.V. CIGARETTES,” identifying the manufacturer and its place in a series. Cigarette silks were popular inserts in cigarette packets, particularly in the early 20th century. Based on the style and general period of cigarette silk production, this piece likely dates from the early 1900s to the 1930s. This item would be a fantastic addition for collectors of Scottish heritage, clan memorabilia, textiles, cigarette silks, or general ephemera’.
