Mairi MacPherson’s Hunting Dress

This dress was made by Mairi from polyviscose fabric in 2021. Mairi told us:

I made this dress in 2021, at the same time as Seamus and I were redesigning the Clan Macpherson Museum. I made it from polyviscose fabric because I wanted something that I could put in the washing machine. Unfortunately I don’t remember what the pattern was. The dress is very forgiving – its construction is such that the belt tightens and loosens it significantly, and it accommodates changing bodies very nicely. I particularly like that it is at once modest and not. I made it before I knew how to use an overlocker and the seams are pretty rough, but it wears beautifully. I took extra care to match the pattern at the centre seams at the front and back. I now wear this dress to the Games on the Saturday of the Gathering, but also for semi-formal occasions such as chairing events – and sometimes just as a regular dress!
